What is the most valuable everyday item? It could be people, food, or clothing, depending on your perspectives. However, water is the most important resource for living because, without water, there is no life. People drink, wash, clean, and use it every day. Nevertheless, they do not recognize its value and often waste it. Many people around the world suffer from a shortage of water. According to the United Nations report, they stated that “By 2025, 1.8 billion people will face water scarcity.” Since water has incredible influence over the world’s population, people should promote sustainable methods to manage and use water resources properly.
To preserve limited water resources, global retailers and food companies must work collectively and emphasize the importance of water preservation by volunteering in conservation efforts. People could apply collective action to the city or their neighborhood. This could make us reflect on themselves, whether they overuse water. Certain corporations are leading such change with notable actions. According to the New York Times, the California Water Action has brought companies operating in California altogether, including Nestlé Waters, to protect California’s water resources. The companies have applied collective action to its water bottling operations. For example, Nestlé Pakistan from Nestlé Waters helped to improve water quality for neighboring farmers and the community. The Sheikhupura factory has put the Nestlé Commitment to guide its water support efforts and constantly upgrade its operations to the latest standards in global technology as well. Moreover, Korea Pulmuone Waters works on preserving water by using labels that could easily get peeled off. Likewise, companies volunteering in conservatory efforts can make a notable difference in water usage.
Another method people could promote is taking action by considering how much water they use each day in order to manage water resources. This could motivate people to try water conservation methods in their daily lives, eventually people collectively working on sustainable water usage. Some organizations reflected and estimated the preservation of water which was a significant action to take. According to the United Nations, the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Regional Strategic Programme Coordinator brought up this issue and discussed different kinds of ways or causes that could happen. He stated, “For food and nutritional needs, the requirement is between 2,000 and 5,000 liters per person, depending on diet, or “roughly one liter per kilo-calorie.” Also, he emphasized that to strengthen food security given that the world population is estimated to cross the nine billion mark, this could highlight the issue of water scarcity. This was also related to the sustainable goal number 6, Clean Water, and Sanitation. So they are assured to work on it by strengthening the people, community, and ecosystems. They employed large harvesting methods for agricultural purposes. Also, they strengthened governance, employed water saving with technologies, as well as useful plans, and food security which also could connect to water. Similarly, taking action by employing water savings and employing large harvesting methods as an organization could make a difference in society.
Lastly, people can communicate about the cause of water shortage with people or participate in water conservation campaigns. This could make different kinds of methods that were mentioned before altogether and strive with them in reality. According to the World Economic Forum, even though a lot of people are trying different ways to solve this situation, there is a serious crisis that is going on. Water could be linked to the global climate crisis. Climate change increases inconsistency within the water cycle, causing extraordinary climate occasions, lessening the consistency of water accessibility, influencing water quality, and undermining feasible advancement and biodiversity around the world. However, they tried to solve the problem by requiring more speculation: strides in hydrological information, educating, administrating, improvement, chance appraisal, and information sharing.
In conclusion, people should promote water conservation by volunteering, reflecting on their water usage, and discussing or participating in campaigns to manage water resources. In addition, they should remember, “Think Globally, Act Locally.” Every action will empower build up altogether to preserve water and form a sustainable society one day.
