India’s Replacement over China’s Position Initiated

The population of a country is the most important statistic that examines the nation’s hard power. According to this fact, China was assessed as the country with the highest potential in the world. However, the situation changed as India surpassed China’s population in 2022. China’s total fertility rate has declined since the 1980s, as the Chinese government started to institute a family planning policy that restricts Chinese people from bearing their children. On the other hand, India tried to regulate its population as China did but did not succeed in doing so. Consequently, as the total fertility rate of India has continued to increase, India’s population has surpassed that of China. Therefore, India seems to have replaced China’s role in world politics and the economy.
As India’s population has surpassed China’s, there is a debate about India’s right to a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). A UN population expert predicts India is likely to get a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council due to India’s strengthened power based on its population. In response to a recent survey conducted by the think-tank Atlantic Council, 26% of political experts agreed that India will become an official member of the UNSC in the future. This evidence suggests that India’s international political power has become a game-changer on the world stage. Consequently, China’s global reach could decline allowing India to gain more influence in Asia.
When China was the most populated country in the world, all the world’s producers focused on it. Many American firms built their factories in China to take advantage of the country’s low-cost labor resources. Even movies produced by famous film companies like Disney became controversial as they included messages that would appeal to Chinese audiences. However, as India became more populated than China and the relationship between China and the West deteriorated, India began positioning itself as a significant player on the world stage. According to Time, India “is also boosting production capacity by attracting international conglomerates like Apple, and turning smaller cities like Pune and Chennai into hubs of manufacturing, innovation, and technology.” India’s recent moves remind us of China’s expansion when China had the highest population potential in the world. If this trend continues, India will replace China’s economic position in the world economy and become the most attractive market in the Asian continent.
In conclusion, India’s replacement of China’s political and economic position has been initiated since India’s population surpassed China’s. This trend will accelerate as the disparity in the total fertility rate between the two countries grows larger. As a result, the world order’s pivot will shift from China to India.
